Dressing Room Diaries- Athleisure

Happy Friday ladies. There’s no question that most of our wardrobe needs have become more relaxed and athleisure is more popular than ever. I am not the sweats and tee sort of gal but I do need comfy. I went out looking for comfy and casual athleisure clothes I could wear around home and for quick trips to the grocery store. What I discovered was a terrific new collection at a place I have never shopped.

If you’re new here, dressing room diaries is when I go into stores and try on new merchandise for you to see how it looks on a woman over 25 who wears a size larger than zero. For reference, I am 5’4″ tall and weigh 145 lbs. I have wide shoulders and straight hips with long arms and torso. I often wear one or two sizes larger on the top than the bottom. My hair gets trashed and the lighting is bad but you’ll get the idea of what things look like.

This swing dress is super comfy and hides a multitude of sins. I’m wearing a small but would prefer a medium to have some extra fabric across the chest. It could not be easier to toss this on with sandals and call it a day.

I love this classic little shirt dress! I’m wearing a medium and would go up to a large so I could add a belt so it runs a bit small. It comes in a darker wash too.

FYI, there is a big white smoosh on the mirror so it looks like it’s on the garment…but it’s not. The fabric of these next few pieces is a soft breathable jersey with Go-Dry moisture-wicking technology that keeps you dry & comfortable. It’s called the Breathe ON collection and it’s terrific.

Clearly, I love it because several pieces came home with me. This jumpsuit has an elasticized bungee cord type drawstring at the waist that you don’t really need so you could just snip it off. The color I bought is called black but it’s more like a charcoal gray to me. It also comes in pine and light gray. I’m wearing a small so I think it runs generously. It’s an easy way to dress for hanging out at home and feels more put together than sweats:)

This top and pants are from the same high-performance fabric that I’ve decided I could live in! It’s super soft, stretchy, cool in the hot weather, and doubles for workout wear. The top is called cropped, but it sits at my waist. The pants are also cropped and are a great length for hot days. I am wearing a small in both because they run generously. My top is cornflower and the pants are navy.

This chambray dress is super cute. The style accentuates your shoulders so it would be more flattering on a woman with narrower ones than me. I am wearing a medium in regular. It also comes in tall and petite. I think the petite would be too short for me…I might even prefer the tall version:) Never limit your choices to the size section a store has decided you fit into.

I really love the fit of these straight jeans. This particular pair has more distressing on the pocket than I care for but this style is made in tons of washes and finishes. This is their skinny straight fit in a 6 which is perfect for me so it runs true to size. I would prefer these but they were out of my size in the store. This swing tank top comes in tons of colors and prints, in regular, tall and petite. I am wearing a regular M and would opt for the tall if I wanted to wear it over leggings.

My trip to Old Navy was fascinating. I found quality basics that were very similar to what I would find at Gap, but at more affordable prices and are great options for women over 50.

Have you shopped Old Navy?
