Tis the season for summer fun and sun rays, safely of course. While we are out and about during these long summer days, our skin is exposed to harsh UV rays and photo-aging which leads to wrinkles, dark spots and other skin concerns. Today, the SOS team is diving into our summer skincare must-haves and sharing beauty tips to ensure our summer is a healthy, glowy and sun-damage-free one.
It is officially Summer and as it gets hotter, the more my skin tends to have random breakout/flare-ups. Because of the pandemic, I’ve had the pleasure of going makeup free most days and it’s been heaven for my skin! I really try to wear less makeup during the summer but still like a little coverage. I loooove Colorscience Sunforgettable Brush-on Sunscreen SPF 30. It provides an airbrush like cover and protects the skin with amazing ingredients.
Also Purito Centella Green Level Unscentwd Sunscreen SPF50+. This is a water-based sunscreen made with Centella extracts without stickiness or white residue. It has hyaluronic acid and Centella asiatica extract that restores the oil/moisture balance. This is a fabulous sunscreen to use under makeup everyday because it goes on more like a moisturizer.
High summer is here and although it is one of my favorite seasons as a Cancer gal, it brings with it extreme heat in Southern California and sensitive skin issues as a result. I’m low maintenance on make-up (less is more is my motto) but when it comes to skincare, I go all in.
I’m prone to hyperpigmentation so sunscreen is a no-brainer for me. I wear it rain or shine and re-apply multiple times a day. With my active lifestyle taking me constantly outdoors, I use this mineral based Colorscience Total Protection Sport Stick recommended by my sister for added protection that won’t sweat off on your hike or bike ride.
Vitamin C is another one of the musts as we know for sun protection, creating a barrier for the damaging sun rays. I recently have been using this Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Serum which also has hyaluronic acid for extra hydration. Layer it under your moisturizer and SPF.
After a day at the beach or outside in the heat, ensuring your skin is nourished and repaired is just as important as sunscreen. I love this Ren EverCalm Mask, I layer it on before bed and wake up with baby soft skin.
If you’re like me, my face is a few shades lighter than the rest of my body from all that sun protection so I use this OG product to add a little bronze. Add a few drops of Clarins Radiance Plus Golden Glow to any moisturizer and rub it in well, make sure to wash your hands after or it can stain but I promise the result is subtle and natural.
Last but not least, I carry this inexpensive Heritage Store rose water spray in my purse all summer. It’s a refreshing spritz when your skin is feeling dry and sunsoaked.
Poolside reading and sun bathing has become my favorite socially-responsible activity this summer. Especially having lost my tan over the lockdown, I’m desperate to be in the sun as much as possible (I’m a better person when I’m tanned.) However, I was badly sunburnt when I went on a hike last week and realized that sun damage is no joke, which led to a shopping haul on SPF products including this ILIA Radiant Translucent Powder SPF 20. It makes re-applying SPF when you’re on the go so easy and it also takes down the shine on the T-zone if you have combination skin type like me.
Though my summer makeup is no different than my usual makeup, I love wearing more blush which gives me a fresh-out-of-the-sun look. I mix my favorite Glossier Cloud Paints in Dawn and Haze together and just dab it on the highest point of my cheeks. The trick is to also bring the color across the bridge of the nose and to the temples. Then I set it with a powdered blush from Cargo for a little shimmer. Sometimes when I’m out and need a touch up on blush, my lipstick saves the day. I take a little bit of color and blend it nicely with fingers (use hand sanitizers first!).
My skin is very sensitive and prone to breakouts during the summer. I try to wear the least makeup during this season but whenever I need to add extra coverage, I stick to BB creams that are extra light, moisturizing, and packed with SPF! I consider the Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control my summer ride-or-die product. It keeps my face from being oily and it also comes with an easy applicator. Did I mention that it has SPF 50? I love to layer it on top of my moisturizer and sunscreen.
Lately, I have been using the Innisfree Water Drop Sunscreen that my friend brought from Korea. It is a water-based sunscreen that glides on easily and is absorbed quickly. None of that greasy and sticky feeling!
