The much-loved utility trend has returned for yet another season in the sunshine, but it’s not all just boilersuits and biker boots. This year, the pockets, neutral shades and practical elements that define the style have been revamped to make them as modern as ever. Need some help on the styling front? Sure thing. We’ve put together five different outfits for all sorts of different occasions to make sure you’re always on trend. Scroll to discover which look you like best…
1. Classic utility
To pay true ode to the trend, pair some tie-waist ecru trousers with a cropped khaki shacket and tie the look together with a plain white cami and white trainers. Then, give the combination extra cool points by adding a bucket hat and a lime bag to top it all off.
2. Crisp and clean
You can easily brighten up a utility look by ditching the earthy tones and opting for an all-white ensemble instead. Add some chunky ecru boots, a bag cross body bag and some sunglasses for the ultimate summer daytime outfit.
3. Festival dreaming
Glastonbury might be cancelled this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still wear some festival inspired outfits day-to-day. A utility gilet quickly becomes a classic when styled with some denim shorts and black chunky boots. We can’t imagine not having one of these in our wardrobes…
4. Don’t forget dresses
Give the utility trend a feminine touch by basing your look around the right dress. The trick is in the styling: go for a shirt style in a neutral colour and add a shacket and some boots to give it a tougher edge. To finish, add some accessories like a bag and some sunglasses in the same colour family.
5. Smarten up
Utility doesn’t always have to mean casual – the trend can also work just as well on a night out (which will soon no longer be a distant memory). Start with some wide-legged trousers and a black bodysuit for a staple evening look – then throw on a faux leather jacket in a taupe shade for your subtle nod to the trend. Finish with some staple black strappy heels and a mini bag.
